The human brain rests at the center of humanity, the starting point for almost everything that happens in this world. Yet it’s no exaggeration to say that we know more about space than we do the lump of gray matter between your ears. I blame this state of affairs on my mother, who refused to let me perform an explorative lobotomy on my sister when we were younger, no matter how many times I promised to stitch her back together again once I was through. Had she not crushed my budding career as a neuroscientist before it ever got started, I’m sure we’d have it all figured out by now.

Thankfully, other, far less impressive people (whose parents were apparently more liberal in the sibling dissection department), have taken up these pursuits in my absence, and they’ve been steadily working to unlock all the secrets of the brain.
