Racism doesn’t always take the form of men in white hoods running around lynching black people, or a bunch of whites with confederate flags holding “southern pride” rallies at the capital. There are many subtle forms of racism in American society and throughout the world that send the message that one group of people is preferable to another.

In Brazil, there’s heavy demand for white sperm donors from the U.S. “The vast majority of what we have and what we sell are the Caucasian blond-haired, blue-eyed donors,” says Fredrik Andreasson, CFO of Seattle Sperm Bank, which provides about a quarter of Brazil’s imports. Prejudice against darker skin runs deep in this country, and parents want a “prettier” light-skinned child with blue eyes and blonde hair, which amounts to a better life. (Pearson, 3-23-2018)
