All humans have certain needs and desires that must be at least partially sustained in order to feel content in life. When we experience trauma, stress, ridicule, frustrated or repressed desires, or other insults against our psyche, it results in mental anguish. And when this mental anguish piles up or becomes a series of recurring setbacks that occur over and over again, it can morph into depression.

Depression is one of the most prevalent illnesses in the developed world. (Insel, 2010) Research from 2008 suggests that approximately 14.3 million people in the U.S., or 6.4% of all adults, experience a major depressive episode in any given year. (Grimm & Scheidegger, 2013) That’s a lot of suffering, and many people endure this suffering without any support or treatment for their depression.

If you’re one of these people, or if you know someone who is, we hope these resources will help you correct course and set down the path towards a brighter future.
