Here are some brief suggestions for preventing stress throughout your
day-to-day routine:

1.    Keep your personal areas organized and uncluttered. A messy and
cluttered environment sends subconscious cues to your brain that
will elevate stress and anxiety.

2.    Use an index card or sticky note to cover the clock in your car
whenever you get stuck in traffic. There’s nothing you can do about
it anyway, so there’s little point in stressing yourself out about how
late you’re going to be.

3.    When things get heated, whether it’s a conversation with your kids
or other adults, taking a break and walking away and then revisiting
things later can save you a lot of stress over the long haul. The more
arguments you avoid, the better.

Stress prevention in parenting

1.    Look for ways to eliminate discipline problems before they arise.
Top candidates for this are unnecessary rules or unrealistic demands.

2.    Adjust your expectations regarding your kids, and expect them to
be imperfect, to make mistakes, and otherwise annoy you from time
to time.
